GHOST QUARTET AUDITION NOTICE

Theatre Elision is seeking non-Equity performers for replacement positions and ensemble/understudies for our fall production of Ghost Quartet by Dave Malloy.

“Ghost Quartet” is a song cycle about love, death and whiskey from Dave Malloy, the Tony-nominated creator of the Broadway hit “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.” A camera breaks and four friends drink in an interwoven tale spanning seven centuries, with a murderous sister, a treehouse astronomer, a bear, a subway, and the ghost of Thelonious Monk. The story draws from several fairy tales and "ghost stories", including Snow White and Rose Red, Edgar Allen Poe's Fall of the House of Usher, and One Thousand and One Nights (commonly known as Arabian Nights). Cast members present the story and music as a "concept album" and accompany themselves on keyboard, ukulele, guitar, mandolin, banjo, autoharp, dulcimer and 9,000 percussion instruments.

Seeking:

Note that we are particularly interested in guitar players, cellists, and multi-instrumentalists.  While no actor is required to play a particular instrument, we seek folks who are willing to experiment with new instruments and help craft a score that is unique to this year’s Ghost Quartet.  Auditions only open to actors over age 18.  Actors of all ages, gender, abilities, races, and ethnicities are encouraged to audition.

Dave (G2-F4): Any gender.  Portrays multiple roles, including Monk, The Astronomer, Edgar, The Driver.

Ghost 1: Any gender.  Will be on stage for the entirety of the show, both singing and playing instruments in an ensemble position.  Will cover two principal roles.
