2020-2021 Season Auditions

Theatre Elision is seeking Equity and Non-Equity actor/singers for our 2020-2021 season (September – May).   The season will include five productions requiring a wide range of acting and singing styles.

Prepare:        

Bring headshot, resume and sheet music.

Prepare one 16 to 32-bar cut of a song. Have a second contrasting cut prepared if requested.

Accompanist will be provided. 

Please highlight any musical instruments you play proficiently on your resume.

Actors of all ages, gender, abilities, races and ethnicities are welcome and encouraged to audition.  

Theatre Elision operates under an AEA SPT Tier (1) contract.  AEA Actors are paid $274 per week for full productions.  Non-Equity Actors are paid a stipend.  Stipends range from $800 to $1200 for full productions, with a per performance fee for A Flight of Short Musicals.  Total time commitment for each show will be between three and six weeks, with between 3 and 12 performances per show.  

Our budget cannot accommodate travel expenses or housing for out-of-town actors.

5 performances, September 10-13, 2020

Rehearsals begin in mid-August

 

This play with music had its US premiere Off-Broadway in 2016.  Four very personal vignettes (Lullaby, Narcissi, The Great Secret, Occupy) with connecting threads are presented through storytelling, acting, and song.  Rosabella Gregory will join this Midwest premiere to perform her original music.

 

Seeking 3 women / 1 man

Singing not required for most roles.

 

Ghost Quartet

Book, lyrics and music by Dave Malloy

A camera breaks and four friends drink in an interwoven tale spanning seven centuries, with a murderous sister, a treehouse astronomer, a bear, a subway, and the ghost of Thelonious Monk Cast members present the story and music as a "concept album" and accompany themselves on keyboard, violin, ukulele, guitar, mandolin, and percussion.   

 

Seeking 2 women / 2 men.  Available cast members from last year’s production will be offered their roles, but we are auditioning for possible replacements. Please highlight whether you play guitar, mandolin, ukulele, violin or cello.

A Flight of Short Musicals: We’re All Right presents a new line-up of short musicals and music.  With humor and heart, we’ll explore the many ways people cope with and overcome life’s uncertainties and challenges.  

 

Seeking 4-5 women / 3-4 men with versatile voices to rotate through the musicals.

Theatre Elision first presented this special song cycle at the Southern Theater in 2019 to critical acclaim.  It is the story of a woman who walks the shoreline alone, obsessively collecting every washed-up object she finds.  Each item sings with the memory of a secret sea-set story.

Islander

Book by Stewart Melton and Music/Lyrics by Finn Anderson

Islander was recognized as the top musical at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and went on to a successful run at the Southwark Theater in London.  Set on an island in Scotland, myth and reality collide when the tide washes a mysterious stranger onto the beach, changing life forever.  US Premiere

 

Seeking 2 women to play multiple characters.  Strong acting required.  Scottish dialect.
