Ruthless!

Music By Marvin Laird

Book and Lyrics by Joel Paley

Returning by popular demand, "Ruthless" is a hilarious musical that has been an off-broadway smash hit since premiering in 1992, and was a Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle award winner.  This all-female production spoofs Broadway musicals, like Gypsy and Mame, and movies such as The Bad Seed and All About Eve.  It is the story of Tina, a precocious eight-year-old who knows she was born to play Pippi Longstocking in her school play, and will do anything to get the part, including murdering the leading lady! This production features some of the leading ladies of the Twin Cities stage!  This is a show not to be missed!

Reviews!

. . . Theatre Elision, a two-year old company that's staked its claim to putting superb actors before small audiences, giving them some strong musical material that hasn't been done to death, and letting it rip.

Darkly hilarious, gorgeously sung, cleverly written, campily performed, a spoof of the entertainment industry and shows we love, Ruthless! is a super fun 90 minutes that you should add to your weekend schedule.

Theatre Elision is quickly becoming a theater company whose shows are must-sees for me.  They are musical, filled with beautiful voices, and just plan fun to watch, and Ruthless is no exception.

Theatre Elision's production went right, again and again and again . . . I was startled by the level of talent on that stage. I've seen great staging and complex orchestras, right now I want great stories and great actors and that's what Theatre Elision is offering.

Cast & Creative

Versatility is the hallmark of this performer. Leonard Bernstein said of her, “Susan Hofflander has the voice of Jenny Tourel and the comic timing of Rosalind Russell” after her performance in “Bernstein Revued”.  National tour - "Phantom of the Opera". Musical theater principal performer in Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, Carousel, Sound of Music and on the American recording of HONK! Susan has performed the one-woman musical she wrote, “Death Becomes Me” and appeared in Theater Latté Da’s production of “A Little Night Music”.

Elena is thrilled to perform in her second Theatre Elision production (you may have seen her in “Pins and Needles” in fall of 2018). She has been seen around the Twin Cities at theaters such as the Ordway, the History Theatre, Yellow Tree Theatre, Old Log Theater and Nautilus Music Theatre. She sometimes does cabaret, works during the day for NUTS on-camera and voiceover talent agency, and sings every Sunday at Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church. Most recently, she was seen in “Lend Me a Tenor” as Diana at the Old Log Theater.   Up next, you can see her at the History Theatre as Judy Garland in "Beyond the Rainbow" this fall. Training: New York University. Proud member of Actor’s Equity Association. This performance is dedicated to my late drama teacher, Marsha Smith, who is a major reason that  I'm a performer today.

Deidre is so happy to be taking the stage again with Theatre Elision! Since moving to the Twin Cities in 2016, she has loved connecting with the amazing artists in town. You may have recently seen her in Mary Poppins, She Loves Me and Legally Blonde with Artistry. You can also catch her at Old Log Theater in The True Story of the Three Little Pigs this Summer or in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder in the Fall.
